“I think Bigfoot is blurry, that’s the problem. It’s not the photographer’s fault.” – Mitch Hedburg
Today’s Advertiser/Adelaide Now website ran a fluff piece today on Bigfoot. Like a lot of things on the Adelaide Now website lately, it was hardly what one could call news. I’m falling for their Facebook links to what looks like an interesting story, all too often. They end up being about 4 pictures and about 6 words and no real story. Today’s Bigfoot “story” was no exception. But it did get me thinking about Bigfoot. Is Bigfoot real? Or just another myth?
When I was a kid and a young teen I was enthralled by anything supernatural or the unexplained. I loved those mysteries that we had no answers for and couldn’t get enough of magazines and TV shows like “In search of“, hosted by Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy. Since there was no Internet back then, I would soak up and believe anything that was printed or shown on TV.
And why not? It was fun. But these days, with the help of science and of course our good friend the Internet, some mysteries are being solved, while others will continue to baffle us. One that doesn’t baffle me any more is Bigfoot. I’m pretty sure that with all our advances in science and the fact that pretty much the whole world has a camera phone, it’s safe to say Bigfoot does not exist.
Unfortunately there’s some people who can’t let it go and will cling to the slightest piece of “evidence” to prove the creature’s existence. Like the guys from Animal Planet’s “Finding Bigfoot”. And these guys can get quite aggressive about the Big Guy even without any tangible proof, almost putting the onus back on to sceptics to prove that he doesn’t exist.
I like to think that I’m a whole lot wiser these days. And until the day comes when I can go to the zoo and see the Bigfoot exhibit, this is going to be one of those cool things I loved as a kid, that like Santa, is no more.
I’d love to know what you think though, let me know if you believe in sasquatches or have seen Bigfoot himself, I’d love to know about it. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
I was always captivated by this piece of footage, although in recent times itis believed to be a fake by the film’s makers Robert Patterson and Robert “Bob” Gimlin.
